Mary Lou Faust

Mary Lou has 25 yrs. experience in Long Term Care as Administrator of the Elizabeth Church Campus of the United Methodist Homes. She is a trustee of the Decker Foundation, a member of the Binghamton University Decker School of Nursing Advisory Council, and chair of the Faith in Action Advisory committee of the Broome County Council of Churches.

 

 

Sr. Marilyn Perkins, RN, MSN

Sr. Marilyn is a Registered Nurse with many years of experience in nursing and healthcare administration; she currently serves as Vice President for Mission Integration at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She serves as Board member of the National Coalition for Supportive Care and as a member of the Ascension Health Steering Committee for Palliative Care. Sr. Marilyn is the current Chair of the Southern Tier End of Life Coalition.

 

Debra Hicks RN, BSN, MS

Debra is the Director of Lourdes Hospice Program since July 2003. Prior to that, she served as Administrator of the In Home Care division of Memorial Hospital, Inc which included Home Health and Hospice as well as other supportive services. Debra has extensive experience in meeting the needs of the community by participating on various community committees. She has participated in two PA DOH task forces: Nursing Shortage and Palliative care and has done consulting work for the Home Health and Hospice industry.

Nancy J. Frank, LCSWR-G

Nancy is the Manager of Medical social work at United Health Services Hospitals. She co-founded and co-directs the Transitional Life Care Team at UHS which assists patients/families and healthcare providers during end of life. Nancy has presented on the TLC model of End of Life Care at the regional, state and national levels. She has been in practice in the field of social work for over 22 years. She has instructed graduate level Social work students and Medical Residents in the TLC model and is in the process of developing a Palliative Care program to instruct Medical students.


Kathryn Medovich, RN, BS, FCN

Kathy has 22 years of nursing experience, which includes transitional care, cardiology, psych, Hospice, home care, home IV therapy, assisted living, camp nursing and Parish Nursing. While working full-time, she finished her bachelor’s degree in Human Services. Kathy is a certified Parish Nurse and is currently the Coordinator of the Lourdes Parish Nurse Ministry. Kathy is involved in numerous community organizations including, volunteer coordinator of a local soup kitchen with health ministry education, support group facilitator for Arthritis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association facilitator, HIV/AIDS workgroup member, advisory board member of Broome County Council of Churches Faith in Action Caregivers, Cover the Uninsured Coalition member, advisory board member of United Way’s First Call for Help, a member of Tioga County Mental Health advisory board and chairperson of the subcommittee of Tioga County Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Through personal and professional experiences, her goal is to increase awareness of various health issues to the faith communities, which includes advance care planning.

Joy Irons, RN

Joy is a native of Waukesha, WI and has been living in the Southern Tier since 1992. She is an RN and has served at Lourdes Hospital for the past 9 years. She is currently the Charge Nurse for the evening shift on the Oncology Unit. She is a certified Oncology Nurse, a volunteer Parish Nurse and involved in the many hospital committees that address end of life issues.

 


Joanne M. Kays

Joanne is the Program Director for Faith in Action volunteers at the Broome County Council of Churches She is responsible for recruiting and training volunteer caregivers, who assist frail elderly clients, as well as program fund development, and coordination of activities of over 300 volunteers. Joanne represents Broome County Council of Churches as a member of the Aging Futures Partnership and the Southern Tier End of Life Coalition. She is a member of the committee that established Social Connections for Senior Women and is a Group Leader for the initial program. Joanne is also a member of Volunteer Administrators of the Southern Tier and the Lourdes Parish Nurse Advisory Board.


Betty Frandsen, RN, NHA

Betty MacLaughlin Frandsen RN, NHA is the Administrator at Bridgewater Center in Binghamton NY. Prior to obtaining her Nursing Home Administrator licenses in New York and Pennsylvania, she was a Director of Nursing for fourteen years. She is the immediate Past President of the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration/LTC and served as their Legislative Coordinator to Washington DC for five years. Ms. Frandsen is a graduate of Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell PA with an AAS in Registered Nursing summa cum laude and of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine with a BS in Health Care Administration. For the past five years she has provided training for all levels of nursing home staff regarding Culture Change with a focus on creation of community and promotion of choice, empowerment, relationships, and respect for residents and employees.

Jennifer Benjamin

Jennifer Benjamin, AOP’s Program Coordinator, received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Binghamton University. Jennifer is responsible for coordinating AOP’s Advanced Planning for End of Life (APEL) Program and the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Programs in Broome and Delaware Counties.

 

 

Mary Vivona

Mary Vivona is the Assistant Administrator of the Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. She is a graduate of Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology and has extensive experience in the management of both community and facility based programs serving the needs of the elderly. She is dedicated to the promotion of dignity and choice in the lives of our elders.

 

 


Jennifer Marshall, MSW

Jennifer Marshall currently is the Director of Field Education in the College of Community and Public Affairs MSW program at Binghamton University. She is committed to improving end of life care for individuals and their families and loved ones from diverse backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. She worked for over ten years as the Director of Social Work in a long term care facility and prior to that worked in Hospice.

 

 

Maureen Daws, RN, MSN

Maureen is a Clinical Lecturer at the Decker School of Nursing. She earned her degree from Binghamton University with a focus in Community Nursing. She currently teaches Palliative Care to the Nursing Student at the Decker School of Nursing

 

 

Melissa Klinko

Melissa is currently employed as the Regional Communications and Media Relations Manager for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. In this role Melissa serves as the primary contact and media spokesperson for the region. Melissa has over eleven years of communications and media relations experience.
Prior to being employed at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, she served as the media relations coordinator for Lourdes Hospital. Melissa received her Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and her M.B.A. from Binghamton University.Melissa currently serves on the Lourdes Hospice Board, the Family and Children’s Society Board, American Cancer Society Board and is President of the Communications Association of the Southern Tier. Melissa has been involved with the STEOLC since its inception


Dr. Patricia Bomba

Dr. Patricia Bomba is a nationally-recognized expert who currently serves as the Vice President and Medical Director, Geriatrics for Excellus Health Plan, Inc. and subsidiaries of The Lifetime Healthcare Companies. She is passionately focused on educating the medical community, the public at large with a goal of improving the quality of life for seniors and their families. She has spoken extensively regionally, statewide and nationally to professionals, community groups and professional organizations on issues related to Palliative Care, Pain Management, Advance Care Planning, End-of-Life Care, Elder Abuse and Wellness and Healthy Living. Dr. Bomba’s collaborative work with NYSDOH on health policy and her legislative advocacy for the MOLST Program aims to facilitate establishment of MOLST as a statewide program. As a result of these efforts, the MOLST Pilot Project Legislation revised the Non-hospital DNR Law (Public Health Law § 2977(13) (L. 2005, Ch.734; L. 2006, Ch. 325). The revision permits the NYS Department of Health to authorize use of the MOLST form in lieu of Non-hospital DNR in Monroe and Onondaga Counties.
Dr. Bomba is New York State’s representative on the National POLST Paradigm Task Force, a multi-state collaborative. In addition to serving as a New York State Delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, she served as a member of the Review Committee of the National Quality Forum’s “Framework and Preferred Practices for a Palliative and Hospice Care Quality” project, chairs the BlueCross and BlueShield Association National Medical Management Forum and is a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York Ethics Committee. Dr. Bomba holds board certification in Internal Medicine, with Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. She attended the Executive Development Program at the Wharton Business School.


James Hayes, MD

Dr. Jim Hayes is a Medical Director for United Health Services in Binghamton, N.Y. with responsibilities for Utilization Management, Coding and Compliance and End-of-Life education and counseling. Dr. Hayes is a Board Certified Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon with 20 years of experience in guiding his patients through end-of-life issues and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Upstate Medical University.

Dr. Hayes developed an End-of-Life management program for patients, families and medical personnel beginning in 2001 and this has grown into the Transitional Life Care Team service which he co-founded with Ms. Nancy Frank in 2004. Dr. Hayes has taught extensively at Syracuse University, Marywood University and Binghamton University. He is a guest Lecturer at Cornell University, Rutgers University and Broome Community College.
